Chelsea's Kohl Moment:
In the 2nd grade ESL class I have been tutoring in there is one white student. This student does not seem to behave differently than the other students yet he is always the one receiving discipline. He has a speech impediment. When I address him as "Nathan" he gets very upset and says I am calling him the wrong name. Because of his impediment he cannot express to me how he wants to be addressed. This causes him to shut down and remove himself "mentally" from the classroom. |
Kohl Quote:
"Over the years I've come to side with them in their refusal to be molded by a hostile society and have come to look upon not-learning as positive and healthy in many situations" |
Kyle's Kohl Moment:
There was a substitute teacher in the room rather than my regular teacher. He seemed rushed and didn't really try to engage with the students. He went for the "control" approach more so than the "engage" approach. Many of the students sat and listened to him because they were afraid rather than being genuinely interested in his teaching. One student really reacted badly to this and ran into the corner of the room and started crying/ The substitute yelled for him to come back and join the class and the student just kept sobbing and shaking his head no. After awhile the teacher gave up on him and continued rushing through "The Cat and the Hat". |
